In one of the Junior Infant classes the children watched the life cycle of five Painted Lady butterflies take place. On the 10th of May the caterpillars were delivered to our school. Over the following weeks the caterpillars got bigger and bigger and eventually they got stuck to the lid of the pot and began to form their chrysalis. They stayed like this for about another week and a half, as they continued to change inside the chrysalis. Then over the June bank holiday weekend they appeared out of their chrysalis as beautiful butterflies. Their teacher had put some flowers, grass and sugar water in their hatchery . The children watched as they continued to grow. They released them outside the school and watched them fly away. It was very interesting to see how they changed from Caterpillars into Butterflies.
